Reflections for a new year

As the new year is upon us, so are the announcements of resolutions I'm hearing from many friends. I've never been one to write resolutions, typically I try to work on my shortcomings daily.
But there are times I backslide. Usually when I have so much going on that taking care of myself falls to the bottom of the list. When babies and husbands and jobs and staff and mothers and sisters and friends need a little TLC, it's hard to remember to shine a little light on myself.

One of the blogs I follow is by leadership coach Robin Sharma. He talks about leadership from what I believe is a sacred place of honoring humanness. I often find myself reflecting on his writing as it applies to my everyday life, not just my work-life as a leader. He wrote a beautiful post about weaknesses and I urge you to read it.

Robin's post gave me a dose of much-needed perspective as I am sometimes too hard on myself, only seeing the things I should (and shouldn't) be doing.

My resolutions for 2009? Honor God, my husband, children and myself. Savor every precious moment. Be gentle with myself. And seriously? Lose the baby weight already.

Many blessings to you and yours in 2009.

Okay, your last sentence had me laughing out loud at my desk. My co-workers probably think I'm crazy, all thanks to you.

Okay, so they think I'm crazy all thanks to me, but whatever, that is a small detail.

Making me even crazier, I meant the second to last sentence. Offering blessings isn't laugh out loud funny. Awesome, but not funny.

Looking forward to reading the linked article. I love your comment about how your dwell on your own shortcomings daily and don't need to make a point of doing it on New Year's Eve! Here here, sister!

Lose the baby weight, ha, ha, ha! If you come across any magical potions, please let me know!

In regards to Emilie, I was so blessed to read her blog. I am sorry to hear of her passing. Her family and friends have been in my thoughts and prayers.

Best to you and yours,
Jen

I'm going to have check out that blog. I think as moms, we always put ourselves last. Take care of yourself and don't be so hard on yourself.
