Superhero (Spiderman) Birthday Party Pictures

Alex's fourth birthday was a superhero costume party. He, of course, was Spiderman, the one superhero he is obsessed with. His friends attended in many different costumes, including Supergirl (my daughter Avery), Batgirl, another Spiderman, a Princess, a Firefighter and a Super Dancing girl. Spiderman's Dad wore a cool Superhero T-shirt and Yours Truly was not in costume because I'm always SuperMommy. (Sorry, I couldn't resist).

Here's our Superhero family right before the party started.

Let's talk about the cake. And the cupcakes. The ones I spent hours learning how to bake and decorate, as this was my first time making a fancy cake. ever.

The cake was a double-layer chocolate cake, with butter cream icing. I used black and red food coloring, and purchased a Spiderman cake-top figurine and spider rings from a local cake decorating shop.

I was worried there wouldn't be enough cake for the crowd, so I also made these awesome spiderman cupcakes. They were vanilla cupcakes with alternating blue and red icing, with black webs. I used Spiderman rings as decorations. The baking cups (paper) were also Spiderman-themed from the cake decorating shop. The cupcake tower was purchased at Target.

After eating a quick lunch, our superheros were thrilled with a surprise ride on a fire truck that stopped by our house. (Super Mommy has super friends!) It wasn't exactly part of the theme, but pretty cool!

After the crazy fun of the firetruck, we moved onto our super-fun Superhero party games, starting with putting Superhero temporary tattoos on the kids (I found them at the party store). Then we played our first game. Make-Your-Own-Spiderweb with Silly String. One of my friends shared this idea with me and it sounded great. Unfortunately, I quickly learned (in front of everyone) that silly string doesn't work when pointed down at the ground. So we improvised and played Shoot-Spiderwebs-at-all-the-other-kids! It was a lot of fun and I highly recommend this!
(Spiderman had decided to change into a Police Officer at this point in the party.)
The second game we played was Super Hero Obstacle Course, genius idea courtesy of my friend Liz. SuperDaddy used existing toys to create a series of obstacles in the back yard, including a number of slides, a tunnel, a life-size Batman blow up guy (they had to punch him down) and a make shift limbo bar.

The kids lined up and ran through it one at a time, after watching a demonstration by SuperDaddy. We played Superhero theme songs while they ran through the course. After each child reached the imaginary finish line, the whole crowd cheered, and they could choose a "prize" from a bag filled with plastic Superhero rings. They had a blast and each one ran through the course at least two times. Some did it three times.
Then there was cake. And presents.

Before the guests left, Alex handed out party favors -- Superhero coloring books. The kids loved them and everyone wanted to color in them right away. It was a nice quiet end to the party, all the kids quietly coloring while they waited for their parents.

Here are some more cute pictures of our Superheros -

Thanks to my lovely cousin Tara (SuperMom to Princess Autumn and Spiderman Brady) for many of the awesome photos above. Also, all children's photos published above with permission.

I think it is so awesome that Alex changed from Spiderman into an even greater super hero...local law enforcement!

I'm so glad it went well, and may even be inspired to throw j his next birthday party. Maybe.

We are still in the Superman/Spiderman/Batman phase around here. I'm going to miss it when it's over for good. Enjoy those flashes of red and blue and/or black and yellow while they're still flying through your life! Those precious years speed by fast, like a bird, plane or... :)

Great job on the party, by the way. I feel the sigh of relief that another party has come and gone.

For some reason, that pic of Spiderman driving the fire truck just makes me smile.

Thanks for the smile. They are tough to come by around here the last couple days.
